First Impressions: Entryway Storage That Welcomes You Home

Entryway with built-in bench, hooks, and concealed storage

Clutter concentrates at the door. Shoes, bags, keys, mail — the entry either catches them by design or scatters them by default through the rest of the house. A bench, a rail of hooks, and closed cabinets form the minimum viable welcome.

Give every household member a bay

A labeled cubby per person — even twelve inches wide — ends the morning search and the evening pile. Add a drawer for the small objects that otherwise colonize kitchen counters: sunglasses, chargers, leashes.

Seating is not optional

Putting on shoes standing up is a small daily indignity; a bench with shoe storage beneath it is the cure, and it anchors the composition of the entry wall. See how the pieces come together on our entryways page.
